Abstract
If we expertly explain relativization as a process where the power of global forces weakens the integrity and absolute quality of an identity, then indigenization represents the adaptation of foreign practice to local conditions and fulfillment of local needs. Explained like this, I think it becomes a little clearer for all of us because we meet them every day. Introducing certain types of consumer products, such as satellite television or contraceptives, into a closed society can have the consequences of undermining or relativizing existing identities and customs, as well as shaking up existing political interests.
