There is no consent in academic world about the meaning of the populism as a phenomenon and how should it be described. One of the issues that attract the attention of analysts is whether we should identify populism as a threat or a challenge to democracy and can populism engender the stability of western democracy? The introduction as a first section of this paper is devoted to definitions and explanations of the term “populism” and the controversy around the usage of this term. The next section elaborates the influence of populism on democracy. The last section explains the constitutionalism and the influence that populism have on constitutionalism. The answers on these questions analyzed in the paper prove that there is no simple answer to any of it.
