Abstract

Whether and how much crime data can be trusted and how much those data are objective, confidential and accurate, are frequently asked questions among criminologists and among those researchers who investigate crime numbers. Part of such research should focus on the factors that influence police officers in recording reported crime because they have a strategic role in the creation of police statistics. We divided them into three groups: related to the legal framework, related to the organizational structure and capacity of the police, and related to the discretionary decision-making of police officers. In that sense, by the Faculty of security – Skopje was carried out the study “The process of recording and statistical presentation of conventional crimes by the police” (Stefanovska, Gogov, Peovska, 2019). Certain findings and conclusions are presented in this article.
