Abstract
Four tobacco varieties (P l2-2/l. P-2. YV 125/3 and FO) and their diallel crosses in F1, F2, backcross BC1 (P1) and backcross BC1 (P2) reciprocal generations were investigated for the characters: height of the stalk, number of leaves per stalk and area of leaves from the middle belt. The experiment was carried out in 1993, 1994 and 1095, on the trial field of Tobacco Institute - Prilep, in a randomized block system with four replications. Measurement was made on 100 parental and F1, and 400 crossed individuals of other generations. Based on the average values of parents and their progenies, the mode of inheritance of some characteristics in the investigated generations was determined. It might be stated that the inheritance of morphological characteristics was mainly intermediate and partially dominant: the dominance of the weaker or stronger parent was also recorded. In F1 generation, positive heterosis for the first character was found in YV 125/3 x FO, negative heterosis for the second character in P-2 x YV 125/3, and positive heterosis for the third character in hybrids P 12-2/1 x P-2 and P-2 x YV 125/3.
