Abstract
In this paper a comparative evaluation is presented of some popular finger vein databases freely available for
scientific research. The main aspects of the evaluation concern the quality of the images relating to their contrast, sharpness, present noise and distortions. Also quantitatively estimated values among images of one and the same database are presented. They arebased on various measures which give an initial idea of the distribution of the visual representation of the veins for further
recognition. Useful directions are made for image enhancement based on pre-processing prior to segmentation preceding the identification stage.
