Abstract
This study analyzes the role of educational technology in primary education in Kosovo (pre-primary classes and grades 1–5), with a focus on its impact on students’ understanding, motivation, and knowledge retention. The aim was to compare the extent of technology use across cities, public and private schools, urban and rural areas, as well as between pre-primary and primary levels.The research was conducted through a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews with educators, teachers, and school principals, focus groups with teachers, as well as classroom observations. The findings indicate that the use of technology is more systematically integrated in private schools and in public institutions in Prishtina, whereas in public schools in Gjilan it remains more limited. No significant differences were identified between urban and rural areas, suggesting that the digital divide is more institutional than geographical. At the pre-primary level, technology is mainly used for careful illustration, while in grades 1–5 it is integrated in a more interactive way.The results of this study highlight that the effective use of technology in education depends on institutional support and on teachers’ digital and pedagogical competences, which together determine its transformative impact.
