Abstract
This paper initially provides a brief theoretical overview of the concept and definition of domestic violence and focuses on abuse as violence in the family. It explains the phenomenology of the deep reasons for its occurrence, presents the risk factors associated with it, the typology of violent relationships and studies them in depth from the ethnic aspect of the Roma community. The understanding of the victims of domestic violence, the institutional attitude towards them, the recognition of all forms of domestic violence and the assistance of victims from the Roma ethnic community is the focus of this paper. The victim often decides not to testify against the abuser or to withdraw motions for protective and temporary measures. The violence is committed in front of the children and other family members, the abuser harms those close to the victim, thereby controlling her even more. The first step to ending an abusive relationship is realizing that you are a victim. Although she knows that she is abused, the Roma woman is brought up to believe that it is normal and that she should accept it, and even feels guilty that she caused the violence herself. That is why the judicial response of the institutions against violence from the perspective of the Roma woman should be stronger and instill in her self-awareness of her values. Recommendations and opinions are given for recognition, prevention of the mass occurrence of domestic violence and protection among the Roma ethnic group in the Republic of North Macedonia.
