Abstract

The United States had a enormous influence in the drafting of the Convention on
the Rights of the Children but even then it knew that it will never ratify it. The
question is why? Can it be that the US does not want International Law to influence
federal and state law or it is afraid that children’s rights in the US are not respected
as they should be while presenting itself as a great democratic power. The US can
ratify the Convention and use the RUD’s (reservations, understandings and
declarations) in the process of ratification so the influence of the Convention can
be amended in accordance with US laws and standards, and with this action there
will be no interference with the US sovereignty and laws. But still the question
remains will it ratify the Convention or not?
