Abstract
The subject of this doctoral thesis was the readiness of Kosovoeducation system for the process of identification and work with gifted and talented students. The research aimed at proving the readiness of the education system and defining key standards for the readiness of the education system for this process. The readiness of the education system of the Republic of Kosovo for the process of identification and work with the gifted and talented was investigated by examining the readiness at three levels: at the national level by analyzing the legislation, at the local level by examining the opinions of directors of municipal education directorates and at the school level by examining the opinions of teachers, principals and schoolprofessional services. The sample consisted of 29 MED principals, 225 teachers, 27 school principals and 72 members of the school professional services. The data were collected through a survey questionnaire - Questionnaire on the Status and Needs of Working with Gifted Students (QSNWGS). The internal consistency of the questionnaires for MED principals, teachers, school principals, and professional services was found to be from reliable to strong (Cronbach's alpha: 0.817; 0.877; 0.924;0.925).SPSS v. 25 was used for data processing. The T test and ANOVA with LSD post hoc tests were used to analyze the results. The results of the research showed that the education system of Kosovo is not sufficiently prepared for the process of identification and work with gifted and talented students. Only the MED principals perceive the education system of the Republic of Kosovo as mainly ready for this process.Teachers assess the education system as mainly prepared only in the dimension of identification and orientation of gifted and talented students.School principals assess the education system as mainly prepared only in the dimension of social care for the gifted and talented while professional services in the other two dimensions relating to social care for the gifted and talented and the identification and orientation of gifted and talented students.Teachers who did not have education for the gifted and talented compared to the other four groups of teachers assess the education system as statistically significantly less prepared in the dimension of implementing special programs, forms and methods of working with the gifted and talented, in the dimension of direct work and encouragement and in the dimension of professional development.
