Abstract
The present study focus on the objectives such as: (i) to measure and compare the emotional intelligence of the gifted and average/non-gifted students and (ii) to find out the significant differences on emotional intelligence on the basis of sex (male and female); location of the student (rural and urban).
The sample of the study consisted of 250 students in the age group of 16 – 20 years; out of which 117 were identified as gifted students out of the larger sample and 129 were non-gifted and average students. 44.3% of the whole sample was males and 55.7% females. 24.8% of them were from rural area and 75.2% from urban area. The total sample for the final study consisted of 246 students.
The tools which were used to collect the data were (i) Emotional Intelligence – The Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SSEIT) is as method of measuring general Emotional Intelligence (Salovey and Mayer 1990) and The Standard Progressive Matrices (SPM) is a group or individually administered test that nonverbally assesses intelligence in children and adults through abstract reasoning tasks, Raven’s Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM) measures high-level observation skills, clear thinking ability, and intellectual capacity as a non-verbal estimate of abstract reasoning or fluid intelligence and Leiter International Performance Scale is an intelligence test in the form of a strict performance scale.
All the hypotheses raised in the study, with the exception of one, were supported by empirical study data, as well as the findings of other studies. Acknowledging the value of other empirical findings and findings from this study as well, the research on this field is considered an added value and of particular importance to the individuals’ life in general and in specific spheres
