Abstract

Illegal production, smuggling and illicit trafficking of synthetic drugs as part of narcotic-related crime is a transnational, transcultural, extremely harmful phenomenon that is endangering the entire world community, that is, a global phenomenon that, since the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st the century is gaining more and more alarming dimensions, both globally and in the region of the Western Balkan countries. Regarding this problem, the opinion of the experts is that the issue is an unsolvable phenomenon and would be a success if it were kept within reasonable boundaries.
Тhere are currently around 260 million active users worldwide, of which 40 million are synthetic drug users.
The paper provides data on the volume and dynamics of this type of crime occurring in the countries of Western Balkans, the routes, the distribution and sale of synthetic drugs, as well as data on the results derived from the conducted empirical research.
The main goal of this paper was to arrive at the reasons and factos that influence this phenomenon of global proportions, with concrete proposals for dealing with and completely eradicating this type of crime, in that regarde, confirmation and verification of the main and suplementary hypotheses.
