Abstract
Special forces belongs in the group of high demanding operative and risk professions where more rigor selection criteria are need, since the high investment of the training and equipment, damage that may arise from mistakes and tasks that should be perform. In this direction valid psychological instruments and sscreening procedure are required, where hardest thing is measurement of performance, given the high dynamic of the environment where at least can be talked about rules. Therefore, especially rare this type of research such units in the world, and the literature shows a huge need for them. The specificity is the extreme context that causes high stress that need to cope, so despite selection appropriate way of leadership and training is necessary, as well. So because of specific conditions and teamwork (any other police experience is irrelevant for leadership in such units), training requirs successful assessment of static and dynamic psychological factors.
The research in conducted with aim of determining the relationship of personal (cognitive
abilities, personality traits and coping strategies) and contextual factors (occupational stress и лидерските стилови) with performance (operative and managerial) in 102 man subjects of Special Task Unit (STU) in Ministry of Internal Affairs in Republic of Macedonia, two women
and 30 elders of different rank in the Unit.
Results show two performance factors (Police-contextual and Combat), and one General factor of managerial performance. All factors are explained from personal and contextual predictors. It was shown a difference between officers evaluated as more successful and those less, regarding
the predictors.
The results can be used in maintaining models for the needs of human resources management in the unit and other security professions from the group.
