The textbook “Weapons and equipment” is the result of the authors’ academic involvement in the first cycle of studies at the Faculty of Security-Skopje, part of “St. Kliment Ohridski” University from Bitola. This textbook is useful as a primary textbook for the discipline that holds the identical name “Weapons and Equipment” – part of the first study cycle at the Faculty of Security in Skopje, but it can also be used at any related faculties, dealing with the same or similar topic. Furthermore, it can be used as technical assistance at the Ministry of Interior as well as the Army of Republic of Macedonia. Finally, its use extends to the people who deal with forensics, included in this textbook’s scope.
The material is presented in six parts. The first part deals with the terminology connected with internal ballistics, as a science that tries to explain the process of projectile movement within the barrel of a weapon. The second part dwells deeper into the introduction to propellant (powder) as one of the elements of internal ballistics, as well as other explosive materials. Moreover, this part deals with an introduction to ammunition used by the police force, as well as fireworks. In the third section the focus is on ammunition maintenance during its “shelf life”.
In the fourth section of the textbook different examples of weapons, used by the police force are discussed – in accordance with small arms’ classifications. The different types of weapons discussed here are: guns, automated weapons, semi-automatic rifles, automatic rifles, machine guns, different rocket launchers, mortars and, towards the end, speciality weaponry and weapons with multiple uses.
The fifth part focuses on ballistic protection equipment, more specifically – the standards the aforementioned equipment must comply with. The last (sixth) part deals with the most common equipment for mechanical penetration, used during the daily activities of the police force, within the legal framework.
