Abstract
In this paper, a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the presentation of Romsin Macedonians folk tales and traditions/legends was made. As the basis of the analysis, the stories collected by Marko K. Cepenkov were used, but also stories and traditions/legends from other collectors.
From a quantitative point of view, the overall assessment is that the Roms are very little presented in Macedonian folk tales. Namely, from the total of 617 stories in the first four books, only the titles of the 12 stories mention the Roms (the Gypsie, the Egyptians, the Tzigans), which represents only the less than 2% (more precisely, 1,95%).
And in traditions/legends, the situation is even worse than a quantitative aspect. Thus, the Roms of a total of 181 traditions/legends, are mentioned in the titles of only two legends ("The King of the Pharaon and the Gypsises" and "The Vlachs were Egyptians, and the Egyptians were Vlachs")), which is only 1,1%.
Qualitative analysis showed that in most of the stories and traditions Roms are shown in a negative light (such as lazy, ineffective, liars, dishonest, non-intelligent and within the context of other negative stereotypes). On the other hand, the paper analysis tales/stories and traditions/legends in which the Roms are presented in a positive light.
