Abstract

The opportunities for young people offered by the various programs which develop knowledge, work skills, competences and talent are getting more and more available in the public, private and civil sectors. Different training programs in the actual work environments improve and develop the employment opportunities for young people, especially students. The internship experience of students during the time as an undergraduate, contributes to the lower cost of on-the-job training for the employer and lower barriers to the labor
market entry for youth. There are different types of internships, with main purpose to expand specific knowledge in some field or as a way of finding one’s way into a company of choice for employment. This paper explains the approach of internships of university students in non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Our case study is a three-month
internship process in several iterations and groups was conducted with pairs of mentors from higher education and the non-governmental sector as a part of the project “HEI Student Internship in NGOs - towards a functional bridge across
WB”-(HEIntern<> NGO). The mentoring and internship process was realized through online platforms and tools. Intern’s activities through NGO have shown significant results in improvement and development skills of students and great
experience for mentors. Our ambition is to present the experience and benefits that can result from the internship in the NGO sector with diverse profile of mentors, but also the benefits and challenges of online (virtual) realisation of processes of collaboration as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, by applying the "MultiCreation" approach.
Key words: virtual internship, virtual mentorship, “MultiCreation” approach, Academia – NGO collaboration, students internship.
