Abstract

The COVID-19 crisis has disrupted the normal functioning of economic activities, causing unforeseen changes in the global economy, created mass unemployment, disrupted trade, resulted in shortages of food and medical supplies, and threatened the solvency of businesses and governments around the world. While some industries have been very vulnerable to the resulting economic downturn, financial institutions are playing a key role in helping economies and communities get through the current turmoil and prepare for a strong recovery. The aim of this paper is to emphasizes the role of the international financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and specialized development banks in mobilizing significant levels of financial resources to support countries in response to the health and economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing policy advice, financial support, capacity development, and debt relief for the poorest countries.
