Abstract
Тhe banks are the key financial participants in a country's financial system. Through their basic function, which is to collect deposits and place loans, can to see their significant share as financial intermediaries in the total assets of the financial sector. The success of banks in performing this function depends on the economic situation. Banks through credit activity support enable the growth of new businesses and contribute to improving economic activity. The credit activity of the banks, i.e. the loans has the largest share in the total banking assets and in the total revenues. Most often, in their operations, banks face financial problems that are the result of non-performing loans, i.e. loans that they cannot collect due to various reasons, such as inadequate credit approval policies, unfavorable conditions in the economy and so on.
Therefore, due to the importance of banks and their lending activity, i.e. loans to enterprises and households, this paper analyzes the credit support and lending activity of banks in the Macedonian banking system, as well as a comparative analysis of lending activity in certain years. The research takes and the credit conditions, the factors that affect the credit conditions, as well as the impact of the changes in the monetary policy on the interest rate policy of the banks when lending the enterprises and households.
