Abstract
Instant communication is defined as acquiring information between two or more individuals, by using certain type of network, most often by using the internet. Nowadays, this type of communication is mass and popular due to its great speed and due to the fact that it takes up a great amount of the participants’ reality time and their everyday time. Instant communication includes the opportunity to send and receive: free talk, video messages, different files, voice mail, etc. In today’s internet focused world, it is unavoidable for a person to include oneself in this type of communication on one hand. On the other hand, the covert psychological risks as a result of the instant communication appear to be more and more frequent, like: phobia of social contacts, social anxiety and also, addiction as well. The individuals’ motivation to include themselves in this type of communication is different; however, there is always the need to accomplish certain goals: reading, playing, watching, shopping, blogging, even gambling. There are different instant applications that, unconsciously, cause psychological implications for the included individuals, both positive and negative. Key words: instant messaging, psychological implications, addiction, social phobia, anxiety.
