Abstract

One of the basic questions which strategic planning has to answer is: what business have to be created in the next period, what organizational capability exists or can be created in the next period that is superior to any competitors, and will enable the enterprise to attain a significant competitive advantage in the chosen markets? In order to answer this question, strategic planning is based on distinctive capability analyses. Distinctive capability in tourism is an inherent skill or competence that the tourist destination possesses. They make a special capability, different by its attraction in relation to the competitive s.
From a tourists and potential tourists viewpoint a destination distinctive capability is similar to its unique selling proposition (USP). It is the attribute of the products or services that just cannot be bought else where. So, it may be the factor for achieving premium prices. Therefore, in a business jargon the distinctive capability is the business critical success factor (CSF). If that goes wrong, the business will go wrong with it.
Starting from the importance of the distinctive capability, it is in the same time the major area that must be monitored by the management control system and it still represents a clear competitive advantage.
This paper will elaborate the most significant factors of distinctive capability for tourism development in Ohrid as a touristic destination.
