Tobacco Institute - Prilep is the only authorized organization for production of selected tobacco seed in the Republic of Macedonia. The use of selected and certified seed material will make conditions to maintain a pure culture and to obtain high yield and quality of tobacco. The Institute has annual production of 2300 kg high quality seed for tobacco producers. It is well equiped with scientific and professional staff, modern mechanization and store-houses for production, processing and storage of higher quantities of seed material, including the up-to-date laboratory for investigation of tobacco seed quality. Annual consumption of tobacco seed averages 1070 kg (2001-2005), the highest percentage of which is of the oriental aromatic tobacco types (Prilep, Yaka and Djebel)
