Abstract

The paper focuses on semantic analysis of phrases containing the collocation
“private security” in English and their corresponding translational equivalents in Macedonian.
The authors concentrate on several key concepts within private security area containing
this collocation which they consider relevant to this type of analysis.
Methodologically, the paper is based on comparative and content analysis of specialized
dictionaries, books and legal acts in this field.
The authors believe that this paper could be useful in determining the semantic features
of these phrases and identifying their semantic nuances when translating them from English
into Macedonian and vice versa. The findings will also contribute to better understanding
and use of these phrases for scientific and practical purposes within private security area.
The limitations of the paper could be found in the non-exhaustiveness of the phrases
with this collocation, as well as the fact that this issue has not been addressed so far within
the Macedonian science and practice of private security.
