Abstract

Field investigations were carried out in autumn 2005 and agrochemical analysis was made on 68 samples. Soil samples were taken from 0-30 cm depth and the following parameters were investigated: physical clay (particles< 0.02 mm), humus, total N, carbonates, pH reaction, available phosphorus and available potassium.
-The soils investigated in the region of Veles have a low and good supply of humus (86.77%), which make them suitable for production of oriental aromatic tobaccos.
- Total N supply in these soils is quite adequate for production of tobacco.
- The level of available phosphorus in the soils of this region differs and it is necessary to apply fertilization with phosphorus fertilizers. Application of meliorative fertilization, i.e. phosphatization can be also applied, when necessary.
- Soil supply with available potassium is good and in range suitable for production of a high quality oriental tobacco. In some of the soils, due to their high potassium content, potassium application can be omitted from fertilization program for several years.
