Abstract

A trial was set up in the region of Polog, on alluvial soil type in the period 1997-1999.
Two factors were monitored during the three years of investigation: irrigation with maintaining three levels of soil humidity - 45%, 60% and 75% of field capacity, and fertilization with 150 kg/ha a.i. of each nutrient element: nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Average leaf mass from each variant was sampled for chemical analysis of tobacco raw. The investigated chemical components were: nicotine, Total N, soluble sugars, mineral mat- ters and Shmuk’s index of quality. Results of investigations revealed that irrigation and fertilization have a strong effect on chemical composition of tobacco and are indispensable practices in production of Burley in the investigated region.
