Abstract

There are different classification and explanations about the term “capital”. The most common classification makes the difference between four categories of capital: natural, human, physical and social capital. On the
other side when we are talking about the sustainable development, we have to point out that the term sustainable development is multidimensional and
complex concept. In the literature there are more than 120 definitions which explain this term. In this article we’ve tried to connect the sustainable development and the term capital (in fact we analyze the capital basis of the sustainable development). We point out the significance and the role of the different forms of capital, especially natural capital (non-renewable resources), for the existence of sustainable development, and as a result of that the existence of a human species on the Earth.

Key words: capital, sustainable development, weak sustainability, strong sustainability
