After the disintegration of federal Yugoslavia, each of its six republics headed its own course. Today, about twenty years later, although all the states originate from the same federation, each of them is one way or another different from the other five. That difference is evident in every area of modern life, including the area of law. Although for many years all federal units were run by the legal solutions of the organs of the federation and after the separation, their legal acts were built on the common ones, their different development in each aspect led to the emergence of more or less well-implemented solutions to the same global problems – in our case trafficking in human beings and smuggling migrants.
The aim of this paper is to point out the difference in the criminal and legal solutions to trafficking in human beings and smuggling of migrants in the former Yugoslav republics, bearing in mind the common legal roots of those countries.
Key words: comparative review, criminal and legal solutions, trafficking in human beings, smuggling migrants, former Yugoslav republics
