The notion of knowledge-based competition has caused significant attention in recent years, with researchers focusing on how firms create, transfer and leverage knowledge for competitive advantage. And although there are many reasons for the success of companies competing on knowledge, human capital is at least in part a foundation for core competencies and underlying source of competitive success. The challenge that firms face is: there are important distinctions between managing traditional work and managing knowledge work. Identifying these differences and understanding how to manage them is crucial for building competitive capability.
This paper points out the existence of connection between the changes in the sophistication of human resources company architecture and the change of market value per laborer, suggesting that companies may add value for the investors, consumers and employees.
Key words: human resources management, competitive advantage, human capital, knowledge-based competition
