In this paper, we will first give actual state-of-art for building and investment in SHPPs in Republic of Macedonia. We will then describe the concession conditions such as guarantied electricity cost (feed in tariff), the return period (DBOT model), the necessary documentation for Macedonian as well as foreign interested companies, starters for building, etc. Via a specific case-study we will explain these aspects of building of SHPPs. In particular we will give the specific example analyses of the crucial investment parameters e.g. costs of building (civil works, channels, penstock, equipment and other costs). We will give calculated annual cost of produced energy and income of selling the energy, taking local taxes and other costs, on the basis of the guaranteed price for electricity from the sold energy. On the base of all this we will discuss the preliminary cost effectiveness of investment in the specific SHPP. Some examples for cheaper build are also discussed. In particular we investigate the possibility of obtaining the cheapest on-the-spot build in Macedonia, where the build is facilitated by availability of cheap work and labour. In summary, we hope that our paper brings across some of the general principles of potential investment by home and foreign investors in more than 300 locations for building of SHPPs in R. Macedonia in future.
