The main purpose of the paper is to identify the potential impact of the Regional Policy of the European Union towards the regions on the Balkan, i.e. the Western Balkan countries which are candidate or potential candidate countries.
The most frequently used methods in the paper will be the historical method, descriptive method, comparative method and quantitative - statistical method.
The expected results from this research are related to the notification of the main benefits which the Balkan regions will have from the Regional Policy of the European Union, after their countries finish the accession processes towards the Union.
The main conclusion of the study is that the Regional Policy of the European Union will be one of the crucial policies for Western Balkan countries and regions, after their accession in the Union. The main reason for this is the Cohesion Fund which will be disposable for all the Balkan regions which are lagging behind the EU – average, i.e. all of these regions due to their economic situation. The main output and recommendations which will come out of this paper will be about the better preparing for the usage of the EU Regional Policy performances for Western Balkan countries.
