Abstract
Assessment of students’ achievements is а necessary part of a teaching process, i.e. teaching of a teacher and learning by students. As a component of teaching assessment is based on certain principles, and at the same time through its implementation various functions are carried out. The correct realization of these functions governs the changes in teaching and learning. In the paper both the diagnostic and informative function of assessment and their realization in the teaching practice are stressed out, taking into consideration teacher-parent relation. Through surveys and informal conversations with teachers and parents, the paper examines the way these functions are realized in practice, as well as how much this realization affects the promotion of teaching and learning. Keywords: assessment, diagnostic and informative function
