The transition to Industry 5.0 emphasizes human-centric, sustainable and resilient systems built on foundations of Industry 4.0. This paper examines the role of artificial intelligence in transforming higher education and its alignment with Industry 5.0, with a focus on North Macedonia. The study analyzes current challenges, the level of AI adoption, and opportunities for its wider integration in higher education. It also discusses a conceptual AI-based University 5.0 model that connects technological, organizational, and policy aspects. The experience of INNOFEIT EDIH illustrates how structured innovation ecosystems can accelerate digital transformation and AI adoption through stronger academia–industry–government collaboration.
