Abstract
This book analyzes the contemporary language policy of France with a focus on the protection, regulation, and promotion of the French language. Grounded in sociolinguistic and applied linguistic theory, it clarifies key concepts such as language policy, language planning, language management, and language legislation. The study is based on an extensive corpus of official documents, including laws, decrees, and administrative decisions governing language use in France. It traces the historical development and institutionalization of French language policy and examines its application in domains such as education, public administration, science and technology, consumer protection, mass media, and terminological enrichment. The findings demonstrate that France has implemented far more systematic measures to promote and defend the French language than to support its regional languages, reflecting a long-standing monolingual state ideology.
