Abstract
Higher education institutions in our country and globally encounter challenges related to accreditation, ranking, and public and governmental expectations to enhance community well-being by preparing new generations with knowledge and expertise and conducting research. Hence, the role of intellectual capital created and possessed by higher education institutions becomes an important source of their competitive advantage.
The purpose of this paper is to explain the concept of intellectual capital and its advantages for higher education institutions. Additionally, the paper aims to demonstrate, based on empirical findings, the commitment of certain higher education institutions in the Republic of North Macedonia to knowledge and how much their achieved intellectual values are recognized and valued.
