Events can be an important part of a destination’s tourist offer. In a global sense, tourists are in the constant search for new and interesting destinations that are still unexplored. In the last decades a new type of tourism has emerged which is related to the planning and organizing of events. The benefits of organized events for a given tourist destination, are numerous and evident. Event tourism has also become an interesting field for scientific study. Many jobs are created in this so called “event industry”. Given this fact, event tourism can create many possibilities for the development of tourism in general in the Republic of Macedonia. The fierce competition on the tourism market causes the less developed destinations to search for new solutions. In this paper the different tourism trends will be explored which have great influence on the implementation of event tourism on this territory. Furthermore, diverse solutions for the identified problems and obstacles will be explored. Also a differentiation and classification of characteristics of events that are being held or that can be organized in the future in the Republic of Macedonia will be presented. This will have practical implications in the sense of facilitating the process of determining target markets for event tourism activities.
