The Western Balkans is a region that is going through a long transition and has an immature democracy, internal conflicts. The security challenges in the Western Balkans are unique and different, shaped by the historical, conflict, democratic and economic characteristics of the region. Within the framework of the paper, the author develops contents related to the accession to NATO and the integration of the countries of the Western Balkans into the European Union.
The NATO accession process obliges the countries in the Western Balkans to implement reforms that are necessary for the implementation of further reforms of the EU membership criteria. These reforms will contribute to the achievement of Euro-Atlantic security, while confirming their commitment to democracy. The next content that the author deals with in the paper is regional cooperation as an effective instrument for promoting and strengthening regional security and is of vital importance for creating a safer, stable and prosperous region for all citizens in the EU.
In the final part of the paper, the author states that Accession to NATO helps to prepare the countries of the region for accession to the EU and strengthens their approach to the EU. Advancement of regional cooperation in the Western Balkans is an instrument for the security stabilization of the region.
The content will be created based on the analysis of foreign literature and using electronic content. In preparing the content of the paper, the author will apply the general scientific methods: the descriptive method, the normative method, the comparative method and the content analysis method as a special scientific method.
