Abstract

Ohrid grunec (Rutilus ohridanus) is a small freshwater fish belonging to the Cyprinidae family. It is an endemic species for Ohrid Lake. The aim of this paper is to determine the composition of the parasite fauna in Ohrid grunec. During our research, five (5) samples of this fish species were examined, and the following parasite species were determined: Gyrodactylus sp.; Dactylogyrus sp.; Lamproglena sp. and Diplostomum spathaceum. The parasite fauna of fish is directly influenced by five factors: the age of the fish, the diet, the abundance of the fish, the number of parasites in the fish and the season. The characteristics of an aquatic environment can influence and determine its parasite fauna, and once environmental conditions such as water, food and temperature become favorable for mass reproduction of parasites, diseases caused by them can spread very quickly.
