Abstract

Four tobacco varieties (three oriental and one semi-oriental) and their diallel crosses in F1, F2, back cross BC1 (P1) and back cross reciprocal BC1 (P2) generation were investigated for the characters number of leaves per stalk and area of middle belt leaves The experiment was carried out in 1995 in the experimental field of Tobacco Institute - Prilep, by a randomized block system in four replications. Based on the real average values for parents and F1 generations, mathematically, with given formulae, mean values of investigated characters were estimated for F2, BC (P1) and BC1 (P2) generation and there after comparison was made between theoretical and practical results, which present mean values from 400 individuals. Investigation have shown that theoretical values were very close to the practical ones. In F2, BC1 (P1) and BC1 (P2) generation, degradation of the hybrid was noticed, which could be seen from the standard deviation and variability that were higher compared to those of the parents and F1 hybrids. Therefore these generations could be used in breeding, for further selection.
