Abstract

Electricity is one of the most important and inseparable factors in the social life. Therefore, the power system load forecasting is an important factor in the planning of electricity consumption. Power load forecasting is actually a process of forecasting the future electrical energy demand so that to cope with the growing needs. One of the factors that influence the power system load is the air temperature.
This paper examines the correlation between the power system load and the air temperature in the Republic of North Macedonia. The hourly data (8760 per year) for the power system load and the air temperatures for the years 2014 - 2015 were used.
A comparison of the approximations of the power load from the temperature with a sum of sinuses of different degrees and polynomials of different degrees is performed. The results show that a function defined as a sum of sinuses better approximates the load than a polynomial function in terms of better coefficients of determination R2 and higher correlation coefficients. In addition, the power system load is estimated by applying a combination of best fitting function of sum of sinuses and discrete wavelet transform.
