Abstract

The Belata Zemja – Trnče site is located around 2 km s/w from the village of Pepelište, in a wide and low fluvial terrace, 200-250 m from the left bank of the river Vardar. In relation to the remaining space and the river which makes a wide arch here before entering the Negotino Valley and then on to the Demir Kapija gorge, the Belata Zemja – Trnče site is positioned exactly opposite the medium high hills where the Gradište site was uncovered, i.e. what is thought to be ancient Antigonea.

The researching activities during the several short campaigns were probes in the area KP 160/1, i.e. on the surface where a large quantity of remains from construction materials, fragments from a mill and remains from ceramic bowls from the period between 2nd and 4th centuries were visible.

This land used to belong to the state-owned agricultural company ZIK Povardarje. The long-time tilling of the land resulted in damages and destruction of the majority of the remains of the presumed rustic villa, which was part of a large agricultural property from the Roman period or a vicus.
