Abstract

This year’s research within the framework of the complex of the Slepče monastery has led to important findings concerning the former organization and the phases of the monastery church and the accompanying structures. Taking into consideration that this space has been continuously in-habited for a number of centuries, certain cultural contents have been severely obliterated. The cur-rent degree of research allows us to say that in the area of today’s monastery church there used to be an older three-nave church with a width of ~13 m and a preserved length of ~16 m. In the area to the east of the church, as well as in the presumed south nave, three intact burials have been discovered (1, 2 and 6I, II), as well as three groups of bones (3, 4 and 5). Today’s church which is centrally placed in the yard was built in 1862. A number of years or decades later, the yard was fully paved with cobblestone. According to the moveable finds discovered on the researched space, which are chronologically sensitive, so far the earliest finds are dated in the 14 century, and they point out to an especially increased human activity in this area in the period of the 16thand the 17th century.
