Abstract

In this doctoral dissertation is given a review and presentation of the general condition and future prospects of the control and oversight of the security system of the Republic of Macedonia through the forms of formal and informal control and oversight that are implemented.
The control and the oversight represent activities that are undertaken by competent entities to verify and evaluate the manner of tasks and activities as well as the conduct of the
members of the security system. If the control and the oversight perform legally authorized entities such as the parliament, the government, courts, it comes to formal mechanisms, but when they perform other social entities such as citizens' associations, the NGOs, the media,
political parties and others we talk about informal mechanisms.
The main object is processed through concrete forms of control and oversight of the police and the work of the police officers, particularly in cases of abuse of official authority and violation of fundamental rights and freedoms of man and citizen.
The general goal that is achieved is determining the weaknesses and failures of existing control and oversight mechanisms and it offers proposed measures for their
improvement. The need for full protection of human rights requires professionalism, transparency and accountability of the institutions within the security system.
