Abstract

Cultural heritage is one of the most important segments of a nation's identity. There are objective and subjective factors why the cultural heritage in Macedonia is constantly the target of illegal and criminal activities. The value of cultural heritage is the motivation for them to
become targets of criminals who act individually and organized in criminal groups. The main reason for the increase in crime with cultural heritage objects is the absence of a mechanism with preventive protection measures. The presence of this crime and its worrying growth means
that there are other weaknesses and shortcomings in this area.
The subject of this research is the processing of the committed crimes against the cultural heritage and natural rarities in the Republic of Macedonia in the period from 2006 to 2016, as well as the analysis of international documents for protection of the cultural heritage.
The main goal of this research is to obtain a broader theoretical knowledge about the forms and the method of committing such crimes, as well as operational knowledge for which an analysis of several cases has been performed. From the results obtained from the research,
solutions are proposed for the institutions to be able to adequately respond to the perpetrators of crimes against cultural heritage by using preventive and repressive measures.
