Abstract

Abstract: When it comes to the different forms of electronic banking, it can be said that its most common form is payment cards. They are electronic payment instruments, which contain information on the card holder's cash, or are connected to the bank'scomputer center. Today are used many electronic cards with different characteristics and different types and banks are the largest issuers of payment cards.The most commonly used payment cards are debit and credit cards. They are used to pay for goods and services purchased at the sale places or online, and to withdraw cash from an ATM. Along with credit transfers, payment cards have a significant share in the total value of payments made by individuals and legal entities through banks.In our country, there are different usage of payment cards in the trade for making payments at physical sale places, their use for cash withdrawal from ATMs, making online payments and so on. Therefore, this paper analyzes the payment cards as a payment instrument used to make payments in our country.Will be analyzed their share in the value of total transactions, changes in their application in the analyzed years, the trend of increasing of the use of payment cards for payments, but also will be a comparative analysis withcertain countries regarding their use.Also, It will analyze the value of transactions made with payment cards issued in the country of devices located abroad, but also the total number of transactions in the country with payment cards issued abroad. Finally, will be given guidelines and recommendations for their greater application in the Macedonian economy.Keywords: payment cards, banks, transactions
