Abstract

Our attitude - the attitude of the professionals in the tourism field regarding foreign languages in the sector, in education, at the universities and in practice is an important and crucial prerequisite for the development of better command of foreign languages.
This paper should stimulate us to think about whether we consider the development important at all, whether we are aware of the advantages connected to the foreign languages command, whether we are aware of the deficiencies, whether we have thought about it, and finally, whether we have established personal attitude. What makes the difference between success and failure in the international globalized market? Using the native language of the potential business partner is an instrument with a great psychological effect on the choice among suppliers with offers similar in quality.
We are all aiming towards the European Union. Therefore, the paper presents the attitude of the EU regarding the improvement of the conditions shown through the Preamble and the concrete actions undertaken by the Council of Europe.
After that follow the conditions here and our attitude regarding: what is the currently available offer in learning and improving foreign languages; what is the degree of command of foreign languages in the hotels, travel agencies, at the tour guides, etc.; in which languages are our promotion materials and how we present ourselves; what are the terms and requirements for employment in the branch; is there insufficiency in the practice; do we need better and more thorough foreign languages skills; and last, but not least, shouldn’t we endeavor and engage ourselves more in trying to develop foreign languages command.
Keywords: tourism, foreign languages, advantages, conditions, attitudes, engagement.
