Abstract

Although learning always takes place in interaction with the environment, it is an autonomous, individual process, which as a mental process takes place entirely within the individual. The most important factor according to which teaching should be oriented is the learner. In the educational process two ways of learning a foreign language should be taken into account: unconscious, ie. uncontrolled and conscious ie. controlled processes. The language learning process is governed by internal unconscious natural mechanisms of language acquisition, which can only be manipulated to a limited extent. The lack of natural discourse, the linguistic and lexical progression in didacticaly prepared texts and courses, the processing of texts word by word and not taking into account of experiences, of prior knowledge and individual abilities of the students are not in accordance with the internal mechanisms and do not support them. It is necessary to use forms of teaching that are oriented towards the student, towards the learning process itself, towards action and activity, towards learning through discovery through authentic materials and situations.
