In the scientifi c and theoretical defi nition of the term national security, diff erent terms are used. In the introductory part of the paper, the author will analyze the terms of national security used in the scientifi c literature of certain states of the former SFRY. Furthermore, the author will analyze the national security of the Republic of Macedonia in contemporary global conditions. In the concluding remarks, the author will determine the goals of the national security policy of the Republic of Macedonia in accordance with the European Union’s Global Strategy from 2016. The subject of research is the national security of the Republic of Macedonia in contemporary global conditions. The purpose of this study is to examine the importance of European security and national security in scientifi c literature. Keywords: national security objectives, global environment, values of the EU, priorities of the EU’s foreign policy.
