Abstract

From the diallel made between four tobacco varieties, three F1 hybrids were selected, in which one of the parents was the Djebelian variety Pobeda 2, introduced in 1974 from Bulgaria, bearing resistance to blue mold disease (Peronospora tabacinaAdam) in tobacco. Seven backcrossings were performed to develop resistance to the disease. Each year, in BC generations susceptible individuals were eliminated and, finally, selection among the resistant individuals was made, using the scheme of Emanuel Sanchez Monge (1974).
The trial, hybridizations and selection of resistant lines were made at the Experimental field of Tobacco Institute-Prilep in a period of 10 years, starting from 1992. Inoculations were made in field with a fungus grown in laboratory conditions, by the method of Camil Izard (1960). The level of resistance or susceptibility was estimated by a scale 0-9, recommended by FAO.
As a result of these investigations several resistant lines were developed, two of which are in a process of registration.
