Abstract

The Black Shank disease on tobacco will become a serious problem for tobacco production of the Republic of Macedonia in future, because its intensive production in conditions of irrigating and growing as monoculture creates favourable conditions for appearance and development of Phytophthora parasitica var. nicotianae, the agent that causes this disease.
Tobacco might be infested by the fungus in all phenophases, both in production of seedlings and in field production.
- This pathogen can infest other plant species beside tobacco, e.g. tomatoes, egg- plants and potatoes. Very often, tobacco producers grow these cultures in tobacco fields, by which conditions are made for a greater infection of tobacco and heavier economic losses in tobacco production.
- In artificially inoculated plants of the above mentioned cultures, the incubation period of the pathogen at the temperature of 25 - 280 C lasted 2 - 3 days for inoculation of seedlings and root, 2 - 4 days for inoculation of leaves and 4 - 7 days for inoculation of plants in the phase of rapid growth.
