Abstract

Damping off caused by the fungus Rhizoctonia solani is a very frequent disease on tobacco seedlings due to the favorable conditions maintained in the seedbeds (high humidity and temperature).
Depending on intensity of the attack, in some years percentage of infested area in the seedbeds can be considerably high.
During investigation of the effectiveness of fungicides on pure culture of the fungus on nutrient agar, the highest effectiveness was recorded with Enovit 0.1% and combination Previcur 0.15% + Enovit 0.1%. No fungus growth was noticed on the agar where these fungicides were added.
Good results in reducing the occurrence of damping off on tobacco seedlings in biological laboratory were obtained by application of Enovit 0.1%, where the disease index was 1.5 and 1.75 in the variants with watering and foliar treatment, respectively. In combination Previcur 0.15% + Enovit 0.1% applied by watering, the index of the disease was 1.25, whereas in variant with foliar treatment it was 2.25.
Similar results for the effectiveness of these fungicides were obtained in field conditions. In combination Previcur 0.15% + Enovit 0.1% added by irrigational water no symptoms of the disease were recorded, whereas in foliar treatment the percentage of infested area was 0.5%. Low percentages of infested area were recorded in the variants where Enovit 0.1% was applied by watering and by foliar treatment1 (4% and 2.18%, respectively). Both variants of application of Previcur 0.15%, as well as the check variant, showed a higher percentage of infested area.
Based on the results of investigations carried out in laboratory conditions, biological laboratory and in field, it might be stated that Enovit 0.1% applied by irrigational water will find its practical use in seedlings production for protection of tobacco seedlings from damping off disease, caused by the fungus Rhizoctonia solani
