Abstract
This study examines attitudes, emotional responses, and usage patterns of artificial intelligence tools among university professors and students in higher education. Using a quantitative approach with structured survey questionnaires, data were collected from 136 professors and 323 students across universities in North Macedonia. Chi-square tests and effect size analyses (Cramér's V) were
conducted to determine statistically and practically significant differences between groups. The analysis revealed both convergence and divergence in stakeholder
perspectives. Professors demonstrated strong support for institutional policy development, formal training programs, and expressed heightened concern about academic integrity and ethical implications. They exhibited greater curiosity about AI technologies and emphasized comprehensive frameworks. Conversely, students showed pragmatic approaches, employing AI tools more frequently for practical
tasks such as research paper preparation and grammar checking, while expressing lower concern about potential negative consequences. Both groups expressed similar concerns about AI's impact on originality and critical thinking, indicating shared recognition of fundamental educational risks. Emotional responses showed minimal differences, with only curiosity and concern differing meaningfully. The convergence areas provide foundations for collaborative policy development, while divergent perspectives on institutional mechanisms highlight the need for dialogue that bridges viewpoints and ensures AI integration strategies address concerns and priorities of all community members.
