Abstract
The shift toward a greener economy and the integration of sustainable technologies will influence the workforce in all sectors, making it necessary for individuals to develop new skills and update existing ones in order to stay relevant in the labour market. The aim of this paper is to assess the green skills imbalances in North Macedonia with respect to the specific sectoral and cross-sectoral skills in order to inform future policy interventions. The results demonstrate the existence of substantial imbalances with respect to both sector-specific and cross-sectoral green skills. In this context, industries such as construction, information and communication, finance, and professional services exhibit particularly high levels of green skills mismatches, which reflect the uneven pace of green transformation across sectors. Accordingly, a set of policy recommendations is proposed in the domain of educational reform, alongside incentives for private investment to support the adoption of green practices.
